Meet the Coaches:

Stephen

I first started coaching at grassroots level with Wetherby Athletic doing my FA Level 1 badge in 2007. I then took the opportunity in 2008 to travel to the US and I spent 4 years there coaching a variety of teams; boys and girls at both grassroots level, elite club football and Olympic development programmes up to U17. Here I completed further qualifications with the NSCAA along with completing my UEFA B Licence.

I returned to the UK in 2012 and began coaching the U15 Boys Academy Team at York City and was with them for 2 years working with the likes of Richard Cresswell and Jonathan Greening, coaching some players who are now professionals at York City and beyond.

Paul

From the age of 9, I attended Newcastle United's centre of excellence until the age of 14. I then had the opportunity to sign for Leeds United, which meant I would eventually move to the club when I was 16. I represented England at Youth Level and played in the U16's European Championships held in Turkey. In the same year, I was part of the Leeds United squad that won the FA Youth Cup final defeating Manchester United. I spent nearly 3 years at Leeds playing in the youth team and reserves before moving to Hull City, where I made my debut against Bournemouth. Following the end of my contract at Hull, I went on to play non-league football for a number of clubs including Farsley Celtic, Bradford Park Avenue and Ossett Town.

As the end of my playing career drew closer, I decided to take my coaching badges in order to stay involved in the game. This led to working at Leeds United initially with the under 9's. During a period of around 10 years, I worked at Leeds with varying age groups ranging from U9's to U16's. As well as coaching elite players, I've also worked at grassroots level and still currently do. One of my current roles is to help coaches deliver sessions to grassroots teams and give them the tools to deliver a good quality session. I've also had experience of coaching overseas in Canada with both boys and girls during fortnightly camps.

I currently hold the UEFA B Licence coaching badge and the FA Youth Award at levels 1, 2 and 3. As a coach, I'm a firm believer that technique is key and being able to handle the ball will enable players in all positions to be the best they can possibly be. As players develop, the tactical aspect of the game can be introduced to help them individually and collectively. But above all, my aim is for players to enjoy the sessions I deliver whilst also learning and developing.
